Our human centered design process starts by understanding how you live, what you value, and what you need.

Discover Your Design Style

DESIGN AT NOVEL

Design is not the last step.

It's the first one.

Most builders hand you a floor plan and a finish binder.
We start earlier.

Before anything gets drawn, we figure out how you actually live: who cooks, where the mail piles up, how many people are in the kitchen on a Sunday. Then we design around that. Our design team stays with you from the first sketch to the last light fixture. Same people, start to finish.

Design Styles

A thoughtfully curated collection of styles that help us discover more about what you are naturally drawn to, understand why it resonates with you and helps us design the home that feels unmistakably yours.

Timberline

Organic Modern

Northern Shoreline

Warm woods, real stone, and a little bit of weight. Timberline borrows from mountain lodges and strips out the kitsch: exposed beams, deep finishes, hardware you can feel. Best in homes with tall ceilings and a view worth framing.

Clean lines with something soft underneath. Plaster, oak, boucle, and a neutral palette that runs warm instead of cold. Organic Modern is minimal without being empty, which is why it is the style most of our clients start with.

Lake living, built for a place with four real seasons. Bright whites, painted cabinetry, brass, and blues pulled from actual North Dakota water. Feels like a summer place you can live in through February.

Midwestern Bohemian

Scandinavian

Traditional

For clients who hate the word "matching." Pattern, vintage pieces, mixed metals, and textiles that build up over time. Midwestern Bohemian is the style that looks least like a builder home, and that is the point.

Pale woods, simple forms, and nothing in the room that is not earning its spot. Scandinavian design was built for long dark winters, so it works here better than almost anywhere. Bright, calm, easy to keep clean.

Millwork, symmetry, and details that do not chase a trend. Traditional is not the safe choice. It is the one that still reads well in twenty years when everything else needs a refresh.
